Now create a new shape to make your own border. You could draw out some ideas on this page

Start a new LOGO file
Type: reset setpensize 5
Code your shape
1. Make sure:
  1. it has a “flick” at the end
  2. it ends on the same level as the start
  3. arrow is pointing up at the end
Test your shape by typing:
1. repeat 5
2. [
3. shape instructions
4. ]
If it works, use the instructions with your new shape (instead of the c) to make the border.
Common mistakes:
1. Shape goes round and round – change repeat to 1 then make sure the arrow ispointing up when finished
2. Shape is too big – reduce all of the fd and bk – maybe halve them all. Don’t change the rt 90 and lt 90
3. Shapes go uphill or downhill – adjust one of the up/down movments and test again – keep tryng until it goes horizontally.

Open this file: Roman border template
Delete all of the shape code (between shape and END)
Make your own shape – it must end level and to the right of where it starts
Change the repeat numbers and change the rt 0 to rt 90

Go to the Bebras website
Select the age group then start
Make sure you check the answers so you can learn from your mistakes or your successes
If you have finished, choose one of the following:
1. Have a go at Lightbot
  1. To allow flash – click padlock, site settings, Flash – allow
2. j2code – LOGO or another j2code app
3. code.org

Create the instructions in LOGO to draw your chosen one.

Start your program with
- reset
  setpensize 5
  1. For each instruction you add, test it
  2. Make sure:
    1. the arrow finishes at the original level and across to the right a bit
    2. the arrow is pointing UP at the end of your instructions
Put this above your instructions (to move it to the top corner)
- pu setxy -240 180 pd
- Test your code – you might need to change the numbers so that your shape fits on the screen.
Repeat your shape by adding in this:
- repeat 4
- [
- your instructions
- ]
Edit your code. Can you:
1. Make the shape smaller by changing the fd numbers?
2. Make more shapes so it takes up the whole length of the screen?
Now put your code inside another repeat to get the four sides of the square:
1. repeat 4
2. [
3. all of your shape code so far including the repeat
4. rt 90 (to turn the corner)
5. ]
