Typing warm up

Log onto typing.com as a student with your Google account.  Start on a lesson in your learning “Stretch zone”.

Video tutorials

Who has used video tutorials? What for? Watch some. Make a list of what makes a good one. Introduce task – to create a screen cast to teach an ICT skill that you could teach a younger child. Brainstorm some ideas. Practice skill a few times – work out the best way to do it. In learning partners, teach the skill live – give and receive feedback. Repeat process until polished.

Success steps

  1. Watch example video tutorials;

    2. One by Mr W
    3. One by a Year 6 student
  2. Create a j2e page called “video tutorial”
    1. Do a WWW / EBI for one of the tutorials
    2. create a success criteria for yourself
    3. most important features at the top
  3. think of a simple skill to teach;
  4. practice and master the skill;
  5. now plan the demonstration and commentary;
  6. use the j2e page to plan, do a title
  7. Try out Screencastify

How do we organise our school work in class?

What about our Computing work?  How many files have you got?  How easy is it for you to find them?  How easy is it for other people to find files?  How can we make it easier?

Success steps

  • create folders (RH click)
  • cut and paste files (RH click)
  • move files between folders
  • make sure files have clear nanes
  • delete unnecessary files and folders
  • add tags to online files
  • search in windows explorer
  • search j2e files by name, tag and type

Work through these tasks:

Your j2e files

  1. Log into j2e and open “my files”
  2. Create folders
  3. Drag files into folders (or drag them out if necessary)
  4. Tag files with useful tags
  5. Make sure files have useful names
  6. Upload files to j2e by dragging them onto “drop files here”

Your folder on the school server

  1. Click start menu, computer
  2. Open your class folder, eg “4e on Phoenix…”
  3. Open your named folder
  4. Create folders, eg Year 3, Year 4
  5. Drag files into folders
  6. To move files out of folders:
    1. select file(s);
    2. cut (ctrl-x or RH click cut);
    3. go to the folder where you want it;
    4. paste (ctrl-v or RH click paste)

  • Export your finished piece to your named folder (keep the .wav on the end of the filename)
  • Use j2e to upload your file to your files

Endings

  • Is there a way to fade out?
  • Are there any ending blocks?

Saving and sharing

  • Save your work (as a Soundation file)
  • Export as .wav
  • Upload .wav file to j2e
  • Add a learning conversation to your j2e file

Audacity

  • You could open your .wav file in Audacity to add effects:
    • Fade in/out
    • Echo ending
    • Other effects
  • Save Audacity file
  • Export as .mp3
  • Upload to j2e
  • Add a learning conversation in j2e to say what you did in Audacity
