2 LOGO test page
Create a test LOGO project – include as many of these commands as possible
- Lines = fd 50 or bk 50
- Turns = rt 90 or lt 90 (or other angles)
- Circles = circle 50
- Squares = repeat 4 [fd 50 rt 90]
- Shapes = repeat ? [fd 50 rt 360/?] (/ means divide; ? means number of sides)
- Stars = repeat ? [fd 50 rt 360 /? -180] same as shapes but change the angles; ? bigger than 8
- Colours = colour “blue
- Moving without drawing = pu setxy 100 100 pd
- Shading = fill (fills the area you are in with the current colour)
- Pen thickness = setpensize 5

- Start with reset
- Click play button after every instruction

Africa book covers
- Go to “my files”, “shared files”, your class folder
- Look at the different book covers
- Move the cover you are doing on to the first page.
- Use the tools in j2e to copy one of them as accurately as possible.
Decomposition
We will start with the cover background colour and build it up in layers. Break the problem down – decomposition
1 Cover shape, blocks and colour
- Trace the shape of the whole book cover with the rectangle tool
- Do the same for the red bar at the bottom
- Select each shape and change the colour by using “fill”
2 Text
- Type the different bits of text
- Choose the best font
- Resize and position them exactly on the book cover
3 Shapes
- Use the “spiky” shape tool or other shape tools to trace around the any other shapes.
- Change the fill and outline colour
4 Images
- Search for images using several key words – search what you see
- Use this website to take the background away in you need to
- Create a png https://onlinepngtools.com/create-transparent-png
- OR
- Search for the picture and drag onto j2e
- Go to JIT5 paint
- Start a new painting with the checkerboard background
- Put the picture on the page
- Fill any white backgound with “invisible paint”
- Save image as gif (top right of image)
6 Improve the text
- Use one of these to get a better match

- Type some text
- Click on transparent mode select text and copy (ctrl-c)
- In j2e5, paste (ctrl-v)
- Shift-drag to resize

- Choose one book cover – create the back cover and spine in the same style, matching colours, fonts etc
- Create your own book cover on Africa or an aspect of Africa.
Typing
Salsibury Book cover 1
- Go to “my files”, “shared files”, your class folder
- Open Salisbury book cover
- Trace the outline and the three blocks using the rectangle tool
- Change the outline and fill to be the right colour
- Add the text
- Get the picture from shared pictures – crop and resize to the right size.
- Send it underneath using the layers buttons
Salisbury book covers 2 and 3
- Open “Salisbury book cover 2”
- Arrange the elemnts to match the book cover.
- You will nned to
- Crop the image = drag the blue squared on the sides/top/bottom
- Resize the image = drag the corner blue squares
- Resize the text

- Go back to the first book cover.
- Try to search Google images for a good image
- Or, use the image in shared images in j2e5
- For the text, use Cool Text
- In j2e5 stretch the text to the right size by holding the “shift key as you drag.

- Use the tools in j2e to copy it as accurately as possible.
Steps:
- Trace the shape of the cover. Do the same for each rectangular block. Break the problem down – DECOMPOSITION
- Finding the picture: Use 3 OR 4 KEY SEARCH WORDS to find an exact picture match
- Copy and paste images from the Google Chrome (or drag onto j2e page)
- Choose fonts carefully
- Use layers (like a paper collage) = piles of paper tools bottom right
- Keep improving…
