  1. Start a new j2e5 page
  2. Make a new table   with 1 column and 7 rows
  3. Copy this information into your table

Activity 2 – create a bar chart

  1. Create a bar chart from your table by selecting it (click on top left box) and clicking the graph button 
  2. Move the table and bar chart next to each other.
  3. Add the following title:
  4. A bar chart to show how many million people live in each continent.

  1. Add a picture of  the world’s continents
    1. I have shared a blank one that you could label
  2. Add a title: The continents of the world
  3. Add some facts, for example from these websites:

    2. https://www.kids-world-travel-guide.com/continent-facts.html

Activity 4 – Finish your poster

  1. Make the page into an attractive poster – fill the page, addnore pictures and information.
  2. Success criteria
    1. Fill the page
    2. Graph and chart together
    3. Fact box
    4. Big title
    5. Even spacing – no big gaps or squashed items

Follow on activities

1 Cool text

When you have checked the success criteria, then you could do this extension task to make a more interesting title.

  1. Go to https://cooltext.com/
  2. Choose a suitable style
  3. Type “Continents of the World”
  4. Change settings – you can choose a better font here too
  5. Drag onto your j2e5 page instead of your title

Activity 5 Perfecting your poster

For a perfect poster, make sure:

  • lots of pictures and information filling the page
  • things are spread evenly – no big gaps or squashed bits
  • gaps between things the same

More pages

Add a page to your file by clicking on the  in the bottom right corner of your page. You could make a page about:

  • one of the continents
  • the land area of the continents including another table and graph
  • information about the sea and oceans
  • a table and chart of highest mountains of the world, longest rivers, etc

  • Use any drawing tools in j2e5 to make a picture out of this scribble
  • Rules
    • Only take 5 minutes
    • Scribble must be still visible
    • Scribble must be part of the picture
    • Put your first name on your picture if you are happy for it to be shared

If you have an iPad, you could use the free j2launch app.

Video tutorial

  1. Open “linked pages template” in shared files, st-marks
  2.  Making the hyperlinks:
    1. Select “Next”
    2. Click “link” on the tool panel
    3. Type “#page 2”
    4. Click “ok”
    5. SAVE
  3. Testing the link
    1. Make sure you have saved
    2. Click “view”
    3. Click on the link
  4. Now create the link back to page 1 from page 2
  5. You could also have the page numbers at the bottom so you can skip to any page.
  6. Can you make a button with shapes and text?

Success steps

1 Finish border

  1. Finish your border – see last blog

2 Title

  1. Add the title:  EXTREME EARTH
    1. You could use the cool text website
      1. Choose a style
      2. Type the title
      3. Create logo
      4. Drag and drop to j2e5
      5. or
      6. RH click on the title – copy image
      7. In j2e – CTRL-V to paste

3 Add pictures + text

  1. Search volcano, earth, earthquake pictures in j2e5
    1. resize, position
    2. crop
      1. drag the middle blobs
      2. choose a crop shape
  2. Add words to do with the topic:
    1. mantle, magma, lava, volcano,…

4 Add name

  1. Add your name and class at the bottom

5 Editing

  1. Space things out evenly – no big gaps, pictures paced evenly
  2. Look at some book covers to help you with your design

6 DON’T FORGET TO SAVE!

1 Making a page border with your own drawing

  • Use this video to help you make a page border with your own drawing.

Success steps

  1. Start a new j2e5 page
  2. Use the drawing tools to draw a SIMPLE picture
  3. Change colours
  4. Use group button – to make it one picture
  5. Move items with the mouse
  6. Use grid and snap
  7. Use duplicate tool to copy shapes
  8. Select more than one item by dragging a box
  9. Be resilient – take care when lining up shapes
  10. Save with a useful name

Finished?

Put your name in the bottom right hand corner.

Make the page into a topic title page:

  1. Add a BIG title:  Extreme Earth
  2. Use the picture search in j2e to find pictures of the Earth, volcanoes,…
  3. Fill the page

Using your knowledge from your Roman topic, create the content for your eBook.  Choose a small topic, eg Roman Food.

  2. 3 more pages of information with one sentence on each and a picture.
    1. Whe you search for pictures – use “Images – tools – usage rights – labelled for non commercial use

    2. “Link to page 2”
  3. On Page 2 you need
    1. Title:  “Page 2” – make it big!

  4.  Making the hyperlinks:
    1. Select “link to page 2”
    2. Click “link” on the tool panel
    3. Click “browse…”
    4. Select Page 2
    5. Click “ok”
    6. SAVE
  5. Testing the link
    1. Make sure you have saved
    2. Click “view”
    3. Click on the link
    4. If it doesn’t work, try step 4 again.
  6. Now create the link back to page 1 from page 2
