    2. Test it out by trying to get past the Egyptian god!

LF3 Choosing coordinates

  1. Look at the Egyptian God script – can you work out how it works?
  2. RH-click on the Egyptian god and duplicate to get two more – one for each level
  3. Change the x y numbers so they patrol left and right
  4. Test the game – make sure it is just possible to get past by going into the tunnels

LF 4 Use drawing tools

  1. Stage – Backdrops
  2. RH click to duplicate
  3. Edit the second backdrop to make a new level

LF5 Make sprites interact

  1. Scratch script
    1. Add blocks so that, when Scratch touches the door, the background changes
    2. Make a new set of blocks so that, when Scratch touches a baddie, it returns (go to…) to the start position
    3. How can we make Scratch only move when it is not touching the walls?

Now you have set up the links for an eBook in j2e5 and Scratch.

Using your knowledge from your Roman topic, create the content for your eBook.  Choose a small topic, eg Roman Food.

  1. An attractive title page
  2. 3 more pages of information with one sentence on each and a picture.
    1. Whe you search for pictures – use “Images – tools – usage rights – labelled for non commercial use

  1. Go to Scratch:  https://scratch.mit.edu/
  2. Click “Start creating”
  3. Watch the intro video
    1. What is different in Scratch 3?
    2. What is the same?
    3. What did you remember? What is new to you?
  4. Click “Tutorials” – start with “Animate an adventure game”
  5. If you finish that one, develop it, or try another tutorial.
  6. How could you use Scratch for a topic based project?
  7. Save your work to your Google Drive.
  8. You could also try Y4 task – hyperlinked pages in Scratch – a way of setting up an interactive ebook with linked pages in scratch.

  1. Create and save two pages in j2e5:
    1. Page 1
    2. Page 2
  2. On Page 1 you need
    1. Title:  “Page 1” – make it big!
    2. “Link to page 2”
  3. On Page 2 you need
    1. Title:  “Page 2” – make it big!
    2. “Link to page 1”
  4.  Making the hyperlinks:
    1. Select “link to page 2”
    2. Click “link” on the tool panel
    3. Click “browse…”
    4. Select Page 2
    5. Click “ok”
    6. SAVE
  5. Testing the link
    1. Make sure you have saved
    2. Click “view”
    3. Click on the link
    4. If it doesn’t work, try step 4 again.
  6. Now create the link back to page 1 from page 2
  7. Can you make a button with shapes and text?

  1. In my files, shared files, open “j2e5 skills”
  2. Copy the objects exactly
    1. Y4 Open “food and farming book covers”, choose one book cover to copy.
    2. Y5  Open “stormbreaker cover” from shared files – can you make an exact copy using j2e tools…?
    3. Y6 Open “mayan book covers” – choose one book cover to copy exactly using j2e tools
  3. TIP 1 : start with the cover background colour and build it up in layers.  Break the problem down – decomposition
  4. TIP2: use 3 or 4 search words to find an exact picture match

  • Make sure you are using the correct fingers – especially particular children – you know who you are!
  • Make sure you are stretching yourself (not too hard – not too easy)

Main activity

Choose one of the following activities

  1. Continue with the class database

    1. Shared files, British Birds
    2. Use the RSPB website to find information
    3. Enter in the database
    4. I have added a “Who did this record” field – add your name to show that it is your one.
    5. If it keeps on not working, go on to activity 2 or 3…
      1. Bird song
        1. Under the audio clip, click on the link
        2. Download audio file
        3. On the form, upload clip
        4. Then click “my pictures”
  2. Start your own database – choose your own topic

    1. j2launch – j2data – database
    2. On the “define” tab – add fields – think of all the fields you need – you can add more later
    3. On the “form” tab – add data
  3. Create an information poster about a British bird

    1. Include: bold title, pictures, information
    2. Can you include the bird song?
      1. Under the audio clip, click on the link
      2. Download audio file
      3. In j2e click picture icon  then + then “choose file”

FIR – We need to reset passwords

  • Please think of a new password with:
    • letters and numbers
    • at least 8 characters long
    • a capital letter or different symbol, eg !?:()&$£\/<>
  • …and write it in your Reading Record.
  • Next time you log in, it will ask you for you password and then to enter a new one (probnably twice)
  • Make sure you don’t tell anyone your password!
